Plans approved for new centre that will support the local community of Grimsby

Pitch Development Services – which is jointly owned by Longhurst Group – is delighted that plans have been approved for an impressive new YMCA centre in Grimsby.

YMCA Humber has secured permission to build a new 74-unit centre on Freeman Street, which will also boast a cultural cafe to offer professional training and work opportunities, health and wellbeing space, conference facilities and exhibition and performance spaces.

Pitch – which we jointly own with Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) – has been acting as Development Agent for the project, advising the YMCA on funding and audit matters.

Nick Worboys, Director of Development and Sales at Longhurst Group, said: “We have been involved in this project in various guises for 10 years and so it’s fantastic to hear that planning permission has now been granted.

“This new centre will enable YMCA Humber to do even more to tackle homelessness in North East Lincolnshire and we’re very proud to be able to support that by helping to bring it to fruition.

“At Longhurst Group, our vision is to improve lives and this new centre will certainly do that for its residents, so we’re absolutely delighted to be playing our part.”

The new centre is seen as central to the wider redevelopment of Freeman Street and will enable YMCA Humber to relocate from its current home, allowing it to meet the diverse needs of its residents more ably and effectively.

Andrew Hornsby, Accommodation Manager, YMCA Humber, said: “Working with Longhurst Group, Pitch and the wider design team, we are really pleased to be providing a centre that will play its part in tackling the issue of homelessness in North East Lincolnshire. We are proud that this building will offer high-quality accommodation and support for people in need.

“With its bespoke design, this centre offers residential units for single people; is accessible to all, and provides residents spaces to learn, train, and move forward with aspiration.

“We would like to thank our partners, such as Pitch and Longhurst Group, for their invaluable contribution towards this development.”
