New build wheelie bins

When we build new homes, we think carefully about how rubbish will be collected.

In the UK, local councils are in charge of collecting household waste. But each council has its own way of doing things, including how rubbish should be stored before collection.

Most councils in our areas use wheelie bins, but there’s no single rule about who has to pay for them.

From 25 January 2024, if a council charges for wheelie bins, we’ll cover the cost for our new homes. This is to make sure rubbish is stored safely and doesn’t cause any health problems.

This applies to all our residential homes, except for market sale properties, unless they’re in a block that has communal waste collection facilities.

Wheelie bins will be ready and in place when customers move in. We’ll let customers know about this when they sign their tenancy or complete their purchase.
