Aids and adaptations in your home

We offer an aids and adaptations service that gives support and practical help to you, or someone you live with, if everyday life is harder because of long-term health needs. This could be due to problems with moving around, using your hands, mental health, or anything else that affects your independence.

We have a team of trained independent living assessors who will visit you at home. They will carry out an assessment and talk to you to understand what support you might need. They can organise minor works or smaller pieces of equipment that could help, such as grab rails or ramps, often much faster than waiting for an Occupational Therapy assessment through your local council.

Once we receive the assessor’s referral, we can arrange these works or equipment for your home. We organise and pay for the work, using our own trusted contractors.

If bigger changes are needed, you would need to apply for something called a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG). To do this, an occupational therapist will visit you to see what support you need. They will then share their recommendations with the local council. The council will also check your finances to see if you qualify for the grant.

We’ll still be here to help and will stay involved during the DFG process. This includes giving permission where needed, checking plans, and keeping an eye on progress. While the local council is responsible for DFG cases, we will support you along the way.
