Longhurst Group customers helping out FareShare through volunteer roles
We’re proud to have established a link with FareShare Midlands which sees our customers being given volunteering opportunities with the organisation.
FareShare Midlands redistribute surplus food to charities that turn it into meals for those less fortunate.
Now, through our Employment and Skills Advisor Rob Friday, we’re working closely with them to give our customers the chance to volunteer.
Yvonne Foody, Employability and Volunteer Manager for FareShare Midlands, said: “I first had contact with Rob Friday in November last year which led to FareShare and Longhrust Group forming a working relationship.
“We’ve got around 70 regular volunteers at our Birmingham site and three of those are regulars who were referred to us by Rob.
Volunteering has so many benefits. Not only do people make new friends, they increase their confidence and self-esteem.
“They can feel proud of doing something worthwhile in their local community as well as improving their general fitness and wellbeing.
“We rely heavily on volunteers. They help us to unload, store, pick, pack and deliver surplus food out to over 200 local charities and community groups in the West Midlands.
Every volunteer is valued for their contribution to FareShare however small or great. The people that Longhurst Group has referred have all been exceptional in their dedication to our mission.
“Food poverty and food waste effects so many people in our country. Volunteering is a way of contributing to tackling these issues.
“At FareShare, you can volunteer in a safe and friendly environment and make a real difference to your life and the lives of others.”
