DIY ideas for Christmas table decorations

Do you want to create a beautiful and festive Christmas tablescape without spending a fortune? It’s completely possible, and we put this to the test to prove it!

We set Sabrina, one of our lovely Shared Owners, a simple challenge: style a dining table for Christmas with just £25.

Here’s a rundown of what she chose and how she transformed her space into a cosy and cost-effective Christmas setup.

Decorate for Christmas on a budget

Armed with her gift voucher and a basket, Sabrina took to the aisles of B&M, a popular bargains store in the UK, to pick up a few key pieces for her merry tablescape.

Stylish wine glasses

The most expensive item in Sabrina’s Christmas haul, and depending on who you ask potentially the most crucial, were the wine glasses.

Sabrina selected some long stem wine glasses with elegant, bevelled detailing on the glass – perfect for a Christmas Day beverage. The glasses came in pairs, with each box costing £6, so using up nearly half of her budget for four.

An unexpected but gorgeous Christmas table centrepiece

A large oval bowl was the next item she chose, which certainly left us guessing what it would be used for, perhaps for the essential Christmas Day nibbles?

To our surprise, the bowl acted as the tablescape’s centrepiece. It was placed in the centre of the table on top of a table runner that Sabrina already owned, and topped up with candles and Christmas tree trinkets.

This is a really easy way to add texture and height to your dining table setup.

The finishing touches to her Christmas table design

To complete the budget Christmas tablescape, Sabrina purchased some bows, some candlesticks and a mini Santa ornament. These tiny and inexpensive items really pulled it all together.
