One organisation, one team, one vision
As part of our continued drive to improve the service we provide to our customers, Longhurst Group is proposing to bring each of our four member companies together to form a single organisation.
We have started work to look at simplifying the structure of Longhurst Group.
We believe we would be stronger if we brought each of these housing associations together to become one landlord and a single organisation.
The single landlord would be called Longhurst Group. It would be a charitable housing provider regulated by the Regulator for Social Housing and registered as a charitable community benefit society.
We already work together across each of our member companies as one team, with one vision to improve people’s lives, but this would represent a fantastic opportunity to work with even greater efficiency and achieve even more for you.
The customer consultation period which started on Monday 14 January has now closed.
All of our customers were invited to share their views about this proposed change as part of a consultation that ran for six weeks, starting on Monday 14 January and closing at 9am on Monday 25 February 2019. Thank you to everyone who contacted us during the consultation period.
The views of our customers are now being collated and the Group Board and our Homes Board will consider our customers' feedback before deciding how to proceed with the proposal.
What are the benefits of coming together?
Becoming a single organisation and one landlord would allow us to:
- Save over half a million pounds each year, meaning we could invest more in our communities, build more homes and do even more for our customers.
- Provide better services that reflect our customers’ changing needs.
- Have a clearer structure that would help us make key decisions quickly and easily.
- Most of all, do even more to improve people’s lives.
What would these changes mean for you?
Becoming one organisation would mean very little change for our customers:
- The four member companies (landlords) would become one single organisation called Longhurst Group.
- Longhurst Group would be led by one single board, made up of people recruited from current board directors across the Group.
- You would not need to sign a new tenancy agreement and there would be no change to your tenancy or your lease.
- The most obvious thing you might notice is that when we contact you, it would be as Longhurst Group rather than your current landlord.
- Your rights, including those set out in your tenancy agreement or lease or any statutory rights you have, would not be affected.
- It would not have an impact on your rent, how it is set or how you pay it. It would just be paid to Longhurst Group rather than your current landlord.
- If this change occurred, customers who receive housing benefit wouldn’t need to inform their local authority. We would do this for you.
- You would still receive services, including care and support, in the same way as you do now.
What happens next?
All of our customers were invited to share their views about this proposed change as part of a consultation that ran for six weeks, starting on Monday 14 January and closing at 9am on Monday 25 February 2019. The views of our customers are now being collated.
Our Group Board and our Homes Board will consider our customers' feedback before deciding how to proceed with this proposal.
If the Board decides that Longhurst Group should become a single organisation, this change could take place during the summer of 2019.
