Find out more about Kingfisher View

Alison our New Homes OfficerKingfisher View is Longhurst Group’s new development in Whittlesey, near Peterborough. It offers two and three bedroom homes on a Shared Ownership and Rent to Buy basis.

We spoke to New Homes Officer Alison Parry to find out a bit more about the development and its attraction…

Why is the development called Kingfisher View?

Kingfisher View borders the private Kings Dyke Nature Reserve, which is home to a variety of different wildlife including birds, mammals and butterflies to name just a few. A common sighting is often the Kingfisher, which is where we took inspiration from for our development name. We hope our homes offer as much style and substance as this majestic bird.

Can you tell us a little about Kingfisher View and the homes it offers?

At Kingfisher View, we’ve selection of two and three bedroom homes available for Shared Ownership and Rent to Buy. These are made up of four different house types, The Grayling, The Brimstone, The Monarch and the Admiral, which are all named after different species of butterfly. This is also reflected in the postal addresses of the properties which have been appropriately named Holly Blue Gardens.

The Grayling, our two bedroom semi-detached property is a perfect starter home. It’s open plan kitchen/diner offers modern living as well as a ground floor WC for guests as well as a good sized lounge. Upstairs, the two bedrooms are also spaciously designed with built-in storage for bedroom two. There is also a contemporary family bathroom.

The Brimstone, which is our three bedroom semi-detached property, is probably one of our more quirky homes on the development. This unique house type offers a generously sized hallway complete with storage and ground floor WC. The open plan kitchen/diner and light and airy lounge make this house type a perfect family home. Upstairs you’ll find three good sized bedrooms along with a family bathroom.

The Monarch, another three bedroom semi-detached property offers a hallway upon entry as well as a conveniently located ground floor WC. The lounge/diner arrangement allows for your family and guests to enjoy their surroundings whilst meals are prepared in the separate kitchen area, thus keeping prying eyes away from any kitchen clutter after a busy day of hosting! Upstairs you’ll find three good sized bedrooms as well as a family bathroom and en-suite to the master bedroom.

The Admiral, which is also a three bedroom semi-detached property, benefits from open plan kitchen/diner complete with ground floor WC. The addition of extra windows in the spacious lounge gives a light and airy feel to this space. Upstairs you’ll find three good sized bedrooms as well as a family bathroom and en-suite to the master bedroom.

All of our homes at Kingfisher View come with contemporary fitted kitchens, complete with integrated gas oven, hob and chimney  extractor hood. Our homes also benefit from a contemporary three-piece family bathroom (and en-suite in our Monarch and Admiral house types) as well as white wall finishes, fully enclosed rear gardens, off road parking and turf (upon completion) as standard.

What are the highlights of the development and the surrounding area? What can homeowners expect from their new home at Kingfisher View?

Kingfisher View is ideally located and is just five miles outside of Peterborough city centre. This means you can enjoy the charm of village life with the convenience of city living. Fantastic transport links mean you’re only 50 minutes from London on a direct train line.

Within Whittlesey itself, there are local shops, schools, medical centres as well as public houses. Perhaps most appealing about Kingfisher View is the fact that it borders the private Kings Dyke Nature Reserve, which is home to abundance of wildlife as well as a unique Fossil Hunting area; with the nature reserve being one of the best Oxford Clay sites accessible to the public.

With Shared Ownership, what percentage of the property can people buy? Will they be able to increase this over time?

Initially, customers will be able to purchase between 45 and 75% of their home, paying an affordable rent on the remainder.

When a customer is in a position to do so, additional shares can be purchased up to 100 percent.

This process is called staircasing and is a fantastic opportunity for purchasers to be able to own their homes outright.
