Better job prospects for tenants, thanks to Longhurst Homes
Longhurst Homes' training and education grant scheme is
about to celebrate its second birthday. Since it launched in April 2005, the Boston-based housing association has given over
£2780.50 to twelve tenants to pay for course fees, books and equipment for training and further education. Tenants have
studied everything from electronic engineering to teaching, hairdressing and computing!
Paula Bavin, who applied for course fees and books to study Shorthand and Power Point, said "Longhurst have given me an opportunity that has opened doors in my career, as these qualifications have helped me to get a new job. I've got a good feeling of belonging to something that has a purpose, as Longhurst have your best interests at heart".
Stephanie Ashford, Longhurst Homes Tenant Involvement Manager said "The grants are part of the 'Just Rewards' tenant incentive scheme, which was set up after Longhurst staff observed that good tenants were not always being rewarded, as a lot of our time was spent dealing with a minority of people who didn’t keep to their tenancy agreement. Just Rewards allows staff to show appreciation to valued customers for paying their rent, looking after their home and being neighbourly".
Eligibility for the training and education grant is just one of many rewards, including entry to competitions, discounted energy bills, a discount card to use in high street shops and Bonusbond vouchers at Christmas.
