Group History

Longhurst Group celebrated its first five years in operation in 2006. It began with two member companies – Longhurst Homes and Spire Homes (formerly East Northamptonshire Housing). The latter was set up at approximately the same time and was the result of 3,500 homes being transferred from the council’s control to that of Spire Homes.

Since then, Longhurst Group has grown to include two new member companies – Havelok Homes in Grimsby and Friendship Care and Housing in Birmingham. In addition to these, the Group also owns a company called Keystone Developments that specialises in building homes for the over 55s. It also has a charitable organisation called Home from Home which provides interim accommodation for people when their own homes are being adapted or updated.

Overall, the Group has approximately 15,000 homes in its combined stock and approximately 950 staff. The purpose of the group is to ensure members achieve efficiencies by working together, sharing resources and skills and delivering the best possible service to all of its customers and stakeholders.

Bob Walder, Group Chief Executive “It’s about providing good quality homes for people in neighbourhoods they are happy and proud to live in. At the end of the day, we are about improving lives for our tenants and residents.”
