Roger is able to fulfill a number of roles
within Longhurst Group thanks to his financial and housing sector
knowledge. As a member of the Group Board, he helps to oversee the
governance and strategic direction of the organisation and its
member companies. He is also Chair of the Group Audit Committee and
so, maintains audit and risk management, business excellence and
internal control standards. He also reviews the financial
performance and business planning for Longhurst Group through
his role with the Finance & Treasury Committee.
Working for the Housing Corporation in a
number of financial roles meant that Roger regularly worked with
Longhurst Group, from talking about day to day regulation to
advising and registering the Group structure. Following his change
from tenure as Assistant Director of Regulation, a job he is very
proud to have had, he retired in 2000 and was asked to join the
Longhurst Group Board with the view of taking over the role of
Group Audit Committee Chair. Being involved with making decisions
concerning the provision of decent, affordable housing, is
something he is very proud of, as he believes decent housing is a
basic human right.
With a shortage of housing and the current
austere times, Roger sees government policies as perhaps
introducing too many drastic changes at once, with the financial
constraints and uncertainties undermining progress. He would like
to see the sector as a whole focusing on providing a wide range of
housing for all types of people with a more defined role for care
provision and supporting facilities.
Away from the housing world, Roger enjoys
watching sports (especially Rugby) and the fine arts. He has a love
of Italian Opera and classical music as well as being partial to
stage musicals, the blues and 60s music. His favourite holiday
destination also has a European twist, as he chooses to remain
within the UK, Ireland, France and Italy.
