The launch of the South Holland Junior Wardens
is taking place on Wednesday 17 June 5.15pm at the Childrens
Centre, Banks Avenue, Spalding.
Agencies working in the South Holland area, including the
Police, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, Longhurst Homes, Groundwork
Lincolnshire, and South Holland District Council Housing and
Environmental Services have worked together to introduce the
scheme.
Junior Wardens are volunteers aged between 11
and 17 years of age who assist the community. They will work
to the values of a Safer, Cleaner, Greener neighbourhood.
The scheme is being piloted on the Royce Road
estate and will be lead by the Neighbourhood Policing Team for the
area. It is hoped to introduce the scheme to other areas in
the South Holland District Council area in the future.
Projects will include; leading on making
the area a cleaner place for residents to live in and safer by
helping to tackle antisocial behaviour. They will also work with
other voluntary groups such as the Fulney Fields Supporters who are
hoping to improve their green play area to provide play facilities
for the wider area. Junior Wardens will earn rewards and awards for
the work they undertake.
Elaine Donaldson, Neighbourhood Officer
for Longhurst Homes commented “There has been a huge response
to the scheme and very positive comments from the
community”.
