Ten years and going from strength to
strength
The summer of 2011 marked 10
years since Longhurst Group came into being – and what a
decade!
From modest beginnings, the
Group has grown into one of the largest regional housing
groups in the country but we have worked hard to retain
the essential qualities that mark us out as different.
Welcoming a new partner
And for us, there
was no more fitting way of celebrating such a
special anniversary than welcoming the
Group's latest member - Beechdale Community Housing
Association.
We still take it as
a compliment that such high quality organisations
make the exciting decision to join us. As a result,
we believe that the way we do things – with integrity, care
and passion – matters more than ever to our partners, current and
future. So in this climate of unprecedented change and
challenges, it is was only right that we re-evaluated our
approach and worked hard to redevelop our vision.
Our fundamental values remain the same, but we now have
a revised picture of what we want the organisation to look
like in four years’ time.
Whatever the outcome we will continue to
provide a safe haven for existing and new member companies, and we
will work together to deal with the impact of changes in
housing policy and the continuing economic downturn.
Responding to change
After 10 years of operation we have become
familiar with change but it’s not always easy. Right now, we
are responding to one of the most serious challenges we have ever
faced, as we work with our development partners and local
authorities to bring forward a development programme that meets the
desperate need for affordable housing while keeping rents
reasonable.
Throughout the past decade, the strong
leadership shown by the Longhurst board and the quality of our
workforce have carried us through. As the latest exceptionally
positive staff survey shows, our people thrive even in the most
difficult circumstances – which puts us in an excellent position to
turn the challenges ahead into opportunities.
