Supported Housing – Chris’ Story
Longhurst & Havelok Homes (L&H Homes) provides support to
vulnerable adults to maintain their tenancies, offering a range of
services such as assistance with budgeting, claiming benefits,
access to professional, physical and emotional health care and
making a positive contribution to the community through employment
and voluntary work.
These services do not just help individuals
but provide a vital contribution to the wider community. Vulnerable
tenants who receive related support are less likely to become
homeless, involved in illegal activities or spend time in hospital
or in care facilities.
Chris’ Story
Chris lives in an L&H Homes property and
has been receiving support from the Skegness team for the past 10
months. In this time Nick’s self-assurance has improved
significantly.
“Previously, I didn’t even have the confidence
to go outside, but now with the advice and support from Nick my
Support Officer, I feel like a new man. I take regular walks to
visit the local market and supermarket.” Chris said.
“I also have the self-belief to talk to people
and have formed some strong friendships with my neighbours. Also
with the assistance of L&H Homes I have attended days out,
which previously I thought I would have never done.”
Chris now contributes articles in the resident
magazine and has enrolled in a computer course at Skegness
College.
