Everyone who rents a Longhurst Group home can
be confident that their property will be in good condition because
we make a point of keeping our promises.
All 16,000 of the homes we own and manage meet
the government’s Decent Homes
Standard, which we achieved well ahead of the December
2010 deadline. Every year, our members invest millions of pounds in
repairing, maintaining and improving the standard of these
properties, delivering these services through professional in-house
teams and specialist outside contractors.
Their work ranges from planned jobs such as
internal and external redecoration through to urgent and emergency
repairs to respond quickly to situations like burst pipes or broken
windows. They are also responsible for ensuring regular gas
servicing and repairs, and responding to health and safety
issues.
In addition to this essential work, the two
members that we created to manage homes transferred from local
councils – L&H Homes and Spire Homes – are in the process of
delivering multi-million pound improvement programmes that are
making a real difference to the quality of people’s lives. This
work includes replacing kitchens and bathrooms, with choices
influenced through high levels of customer involvement, and many
other property upgrades.
Whatever type of work we are doing, we always
aim to achieve the best value for money. To support this, we now
belong to the Central Housing Investment Consortium (CHIC), a group
of housing associations that are using their combined purchasing
power to get better deals on goods and services.

Friendship Care and
Housing has a property services team that is
responsible for maintaining and improving its homes, with two
regional teams covering the West and East Midlands.
L&H Homes works across Lincolnshire, Peterborough
and the East Midlands, delivering a good quality, efficient repairs
service that is accessible to all customers.
Spire
Homes provides a similarly high quality service to
help maintain and update their residents’ homes in East
Northamptonshire, Rutland and Wellingborough.
